SUBWAY RESTAURANTS TO SPONSOR
06.23.2008
STATESVILLE, N.C. – Gillett Evernham Motorsports announced today that SUBWAY
restaurants will sponsor Patrick Carpentier’s No. 9 Dodge in the Aug. 2 Nationwide race at Montreal.
“I think every driver would like to do well at the track where he has the most fans,” said Carpentier, a native of Joliette, Quebec who now resides in Las Vegas. “We had a great run there last year winning the pole and finishing second. That’s the race that made me decide NASCAR is where I want to be. I think the Montreal fans really took to the sport and I expect NASCAR to receive an even better reception from the fans this year.
Carpentier is a veteran open wheel driver who moved to NASCAR late last season and is racing the No. 10 Dodge fulltime in the Sprint Cup Series. He understands the importance of corporate support.
“It’s great to have SUBWAY® restaurants on the car at Montreal this year and we certainly appreciate all their help,” Carpentier said. “I am really looking forward to the weekend. I think the fans will see a great show in Montreal and SUBWAY® restaurants will be excited about its reception from the fans.”
"The sponsorship of Patrick Carpentier and Gillett Evernham Motorsports at Montreal adds to the existing strong connection between SUBWAY® restaurants and Canadian race fans," said Louise Jasmin, Marketing Director, SUBWAY® restaurants.
In addition, SUBWAY® Canada is an official sponsor of NASCAR Canada and also represented within the Canadian Tire Series Midway Tour. Through a partnership with Montreal's Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, SUBWAY® will also be a part of NAPA Auto Parts 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series event.
Tom Reddin, CEO of Gillett Evernham Motorsports, said Carpentier will focus solely on the Montreal race during the weekend instead of racing in both Montreal and the NASCAR Sprint Cup race at Pocono the same weekend.
“We know how amazing Patrick is at Montreal and want him to concentrate on winning that race like he almost did last year,” said Reddin who added the team plans to announce a substitute driver for the Pocono race within weeks. “Montreal is Patrick’s home town and SUBWAY® restaurants will be a major presence throughout practice, qualifying and the race weekend. It will be good for SUBWAY®, our team, Patrick, NASCAR and our other partners.”
Reddin said the new relationship with SUBWAY® restaurants is part of the team’s overall plan to build a solid foundation for the future.
“We have pursued an aggressive strategy of bringing new corporate partners to the team. Our strategy focuses on world class brands and SUBWAY® restaurants certainly fit with that group. We believe this will be the start of a long term relationship with SUBWAY® restaurants. Patrick is sure to be popular in Montreal and we are excited about his prospects to run up front in the race.”
